Inuvialuit artist Eli Nasogaluak was born in Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories, on the shores of the Beaufort Sea in Canada’s high Arctic. Eli, along with his brothers Bill and Joe, are amongst the most highly regarded artists in the north.
Although carving and drawing all of his life, Eli began exhibiting his work in 1994 with the encouragement of his two brothers, and has never looked back. Eli states that his art is an expression of who he is and how he perceives life, challenging the viewer to feel and experience his Inuvialuit identity. Each carving speaks volumes about this little known and often misunderstood culture.
His works have been shown through several prominent exhibitions including the Spirits in the Sun ‘98 held in Phoenix, Arizona, and the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Ottawa, Ontario. Eli’s carvings are sought by private and corporate collectors alike, worldwide.
