Derrald Pokiak Taylor was born and raised in Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories located on the shores of the Arctic Ocean. A professional carver since 1990, Derrald credits his father and uncles for instilling an early interest in carving while watching them at work. As a professional carver, he was inspired and influenced by masters from his own Inuvialuit culture and by Inuit carvers from the eastern Arctic. His carvings often incorporate multiple images with high realism detail that depict striking movements and action. Animals, people, stories and legends from his Inuvialuit culture come to life in his creations from stone, bone, antler, and tusk. Derrald Pokiak Taylor’s works can be found in several galleries throughout North America and in private and corporate collections worldwide.
